Learning Photoshop

Picture
"The measure of a man is what he does with power" - Plato
Adobe Photoshop is a computer program that is used all over the world to create art for magazines,  movies, video games, posters, books, museum art work, fashion, car design, and much more!

Almost everything you see was at one point done in Photoshop.

For over 100 years,  the fastest and easiest method to pass information to the public has been though POSTERS. From the earliest advertisement posters, the public had their emotions and ideas manipulated by what they saw and read. The designers of these posters began to realize what colors and images to use to create a bigger impact - regardless if the information was true or not!

Nonetheless, posters have played an important aspect of information dissemination to the public and though this process, students will develop their posters to advertise a product or project an idea.

Be as creative as you can be. Consider this an art project, but instead of using markers and glue, you will be using a computer software.

Remember, you are the artist. Collect ideas and images from other places and create your own unique poster. There are many techniques to use, and if you have any questions, ask Mr. Muñoz.

What is "reality"?

It is calculated that 99% of all photos of celebrities are "fixed" with a program like Photoshop. This is done on purpose to influence the public on what is considered beauty. But what the public doesn't realize is that it's all made up, it's a fantasy.

We are constantly surrounded by images which force us to look at ourselves in a different way. But have you ever wondered why we follow these false idols?

And which one is a real woman?
Here's a video from the Dove company that shows how easy it is to create the idea of beauty without having to hire a "beautiful" woman.

Can you detect the changes?

These are actual celebrity photos before and after photoshop. How good are you at figuring out the changes?

The Project - Choose One from the following

You will choose one of the following projects to complete:
1. Create an advertisement poster for a product that doesn't exist! That's right, design a poster for a product which doesn't exist, but use your skills and imagination to sell it - be creative with your Title, Body, Graphic, and Slogan.
2. Create a social issue poster which raises awareness of a social issue. The poster's goal is to provide a message (pro or con) in a creative, non-insulting, and respectful manner. You may use images from the web, or create your own drawing or graphic.

Requirements

A successful poster uses these guidelines to become successful. Most people are trained to look for these items because they inform the public very quickly and are straight to the point.
  • Title
  • Slogan
  • Graphics
  • Background Color
  • Body
  • YOUR NAME
Picture
What are you missing from your poster?

Advertisement Poster

Picture
Must be your own product name, not something that DOES NOT exists. In other words, make up a product, then design the poster which advertises that product. You may use images from the web, but you must modify those images so that the original item is not recognizable.

Start with a brand new Photoshop file in the following dimensions:

Width: 8 Inches
Height: 10 Inches
Resolution: 100 dpi

Then think of two of the following to create:
  • Game Poster or Cover
  • Sports Team Poster
  • Game Console Poster
  • Fashion or Clothing Poster
  • Cell Phone Poster
  • Movie Poster
  • Book Poster or Cover
  • Restaurant Poster
  • Vacation Spot Poster

You may use online pictures for your artwork. But, you must CREATE YOUR OWN POSTER. Use your creativity to do something amazing! The talent  is inside of you just begging to be shown to the world!
